So we can all agree that Doom, or at least the concept of Doom is the sh!t right? One of the original first person shooters out of ID Software, Doom gave us a unique perspective to slay hell-beasts, cyber-demons and that weird floating thing with the eyeball. The series has been through hell and back, almost literally in both development and a lore sense. Doom has been on pretty much every machine you’ve ever played games on and while the series has been dormant for the past few years it’s looking to come back with a vengeance.
I think my favorite thing about this trailer is that it’s called the “Campaign Trailer” and then proceeds to show absolutely no story and instead treats us to some of the most hyper violent images you are going to see this year. No dialogue, no text, just Doom-Guy running around putting his foot of demon necks and showing off his new arsenal.
You know what else is great? The release date. The trailer ends with a cyber-demon ripping off your lower torso and the date, May 13th flashes across the screen. I know we got a taste of Doom last year at E3 but for it to pop up again like this and give us a release date that isn’t 7+ months out is so refreshing. Fallout 4 did it with great results and I hope this is a wake up call to publishers that not every game needs a 15 month build up *coughUBISOFTcough*. Listen, I’m as excited for Kingdom Hearts 3 and my Final Fantasy 7-15 as everyone else but to see a trailer and realize that it’s coming out within 6 months is so nice. Let’s keep it up people.
Doom is releasing on PC, PS4 and Xbox One on May 13, 2016
