Thanks a bunch 2016, you asshole.Carrie Fisher, most famously known for her iconic role as Princess Leia in Star Wars. Earlier this week she suffered a heart attack while on a plane and was hospitalized. A statement from the Fisher family announced her death earlier today:
“It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning,” reads the statement.
“She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly,” says Lourd. “Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”
The actress was thrust into the limelight again, these last few years when her character resurfaced in 2015’s The Force Awakens. Her character was a standout not only in the franchise she was a part of, but for being a no-nonsense strong female character, something not as common in 1977.
She also worked on scripts, and wrote books and yes, she was in films not named Star Wars. She came back to us, when she was all but forgotten, to only leave us again leaving a charismatic, grumpy, lovable void.
We miss you already Carrie.
