Some curious set photos of the BBC show Sherlock has gotten the fan base all sorts of confused. The photo showed them in old timey clothes and some fans were guessing that some timey wimey things were going on. Well it looks like series creator Steve Moffat has the answers.
“The special is its own thing,” Moffat told EW before attending a panel at the South by Southwest conference on Monday. “We wouldn’t have done the story we’re doing, and the way we’re doing it, if we didn’t have this special. It’s not part of the run of three episodes. So we had this to do it – as we could hardly conceal – it’s Victorian. [Co-creator Mark Gatiss] and me, we wanted to do this, but it had to be a special, it had to be separate entity on its own. It’s kind of in its own little bubble.”
So it looks like Moffat really wanted to get one era appropriate story under his belt. This is an interesting take as he is treating the episode as just a random almost unrelated episode. Moffat also stated that the special is pretty much finished but as of right now there is no air date set for BBC yet although most assume Christmas time…. Why so late? Because the British hate you.
