Disney/Lucas Arts have a plan, and that is to make sure we have a Star Wars film to look forward to for the next 6 or so years. The plan is that in between the core trilogy films is that there will be an “anthology film” that takes place at some point in the Star Wars lore. Star Wars: Rogue One is the first, set to take place sometime between episodes three and four about the Republic attempting to steal plans for the Death Star. We know now that the second anthology film is to be an origin story for Boba Fett, the galaxy’s deadliest Bounty hunter.
Boba Fett has been insanely popular since he first showed up in Empire Strikes Back. Even though he has less than a dozen lines in both movies that he appears in, he’s managed to capture the imagination of the fan base and has been the subject of many stories in the now defunct expanded universe.
Fantastic Four director Josh Trank was expected to direct the Boba Fett origin but has dropped out stating it was of his own volition but rumors swirl that he was more or less, pushed out due to his alleged poor and widely erratic behavior while directing the upcoming super hero film. As of right now, there is no director officially signed on.
