I’ve been a sucker for team ups since I was a child. From when Spider-Man teamed up with the X-Men in animated form on Fox, to now in 2016 as a man in his 30s.
If you know me, you know why I’m so enthralled with concepts like the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There’s something just fun about cutting loose and playing outside your comfort zones. When the DC CW shows began forming into what I now call the Berlanti-verse, named after Greg Berlanti, the producer of Supergirl, Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow. You could see the inter-connectivity with small references that could be mistaken as Easter Eggs at first but when The Flash shows up in Arrow and it scratches all the right places, the possibilities grew.
We are now at the point where a time-traveling group of B-C-listers characters are teaming up with Supergirl (fresh from CBS) The Flash and Green Arrow to fight some aliens called the Dominators who Barry Allen describes as “World War Z Zombies”. You have to go fairly deep into DC comics lore to figure out who these guys are.
I don’t know how the DC films are seemingly micromanaged to death but in the realm of TV, Berlanti has free range to go almost wherever we wants. Crossovers? Sure. Mon-El? Why not? Alien threats that haven’t been a thing since the 80s-90s? Go for it.
The above trailer is obviously some sort of “greatest hits” but the “4 night crossover event” begins Monday the 21st, at 8PM Eastern followed by Flash, Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow the next consecutive nights.
